Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare, Access, and Longevity (PAHAL): Strengthening & scaling market-based healthcare solutions for underserved urban communities

Aimed at improving access to affordable and quality healthcare for the poor, PAHAL was USAID, India and IPE Global’s flagship innovation in financing platform.

Aimed at improving access to affordable and quality healthcare for the poor, PAHAL was USAID, India, and IPE Global’s flagship innovation in financing platform. The project leveraged private sector resources and capacity to institutionalise primary and secondary health services for the base of the pyramid population with a high disease burden. The project sought to accelerate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by catalysing innovative financing models, leveraging capital, and providing scale-up support to proven high-impact innovations / social enterprises by setting up the Sustainable Access to Markets and Resources for Innovative Delivery of Healthcare Blended Finance Facility (SAMRIDH BFF). The initiative is a first-of-its-kind facility aimed at leveraging a $100+ million fund to allow social and market-based health solutions to be introduced and scaled rapidly.

We provided techno-managerial and ecosystem support to select social enterprises which offer affordable primary and secondary care with a special focus on mother and child health.

Key Outcomes

  • 35+ enterprises with high-impact solutions supported to scale
  • $15 Million funded
  • 1200+ health facilities impacted
  • $350 million+ funds leveraged
  • 20,000+ health workers and professionals trained
  • 6 million+ people were directly impacted
  • 25 million+ people reached
