The project’s main goals were to increase revenue for participating urban local bodies and improve coverage for essential urban services in the chosen Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). The project was started in 2018 with a total estimated project cost of USD 166 Million from the World Bank.
We, as reform support consultants provided strategic policy support to the Directorate of Urban Administration and Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, for several financial and governance reforms. The state government developed notable policies for property taxation, water tariffs, land monetisation, credit improvement, procurement, and financial augmentation techniques. Nearly 10 ULBs chosen by the World Bank will receive direct assistance in operationalising policy reforms to enhance municipal performance and service delivery.
Key Objectives
- Institutional development to support the Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company Limited (MPUDC), the Municipal Reforms Cell (MRC), and the participating Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to build their capacities to improve coverage of urban services in the state
- Urban investments to improve service provision in target towns and cities with an emphasis on ensuring that ULBs can sustain the infrastructure in the long run
