Angul Pusti Adhikar Abhiyan (APAA) experiments with digital platforms in Odisha

At a time when front-line workers like Anganwadi workers (AWW) in Odisha are continuing to work hard during times of a national lockdown, our community-led campaign is amplifying their work.

Frontline workers are an integral part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme and the Mamata scheme, the two schemes that IPE Global has focused on. AWWs distribute Take Home Ration under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) of the ICDS every month to the women and child beneficiaries. They also provide hot cooked meals under SNP for children aged 3-6 years at the Anganwadi Centre every day except Sunday.

On-ground presence: Due to the current lockdown, the AWWs have been going from door-to-door to supply the dry rations for the THR as well as HCM. This is crucial to prevent under nutrition during times of a national lockdown.

Members of APAA, or Angul Pusti Adhikar Abhiyan, which is a community-led movement started by IPE Global, have assisted the AWWs to carry out this task. Village level members have also documented this exercise taken up by the AWWs. We are using technology to keep the team on the engaged during times when field visits are not a possibility.

Social media presence: Another crucial message that the AWWs are disseminating during the distribution is about the best practices to fight COVID 19. Our efforts to document the activities and the response of beneficiaries and broadcast it using social media like Facebook and Twitter, has been noticed by the District Magistrate of Angul, who has retweeted our videos for further dissemination.

A media article on the important role being played by AWWs in these times, written by IPE Global, has also appeared in Outlook
