As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, India needs a robust system for tracking progress at the state level. IPE Global is developing a dynamic web-based Climate Readiness Index (CRI) enabled Decision Support System (DSS) as a solution. This multi-dimensional DSS tracks the progress of India’s top 10 emitting states by mapping their low-carbon pathways.
The CRI utilizes a longitudinal assessment approach to analyze state policies, actions, and financial readiness for low-carbon development, considering economic growth and climate change mitigation. It provides real-time insights into renewable energy potential and progress, fostering climate-informed decision-making and supporting technological innovations. By comparing states’ performances, the CRI identifies frontrunners and laggards, highlighting areas for improvement. This information empowers states to develop tailored low-carbon strategies with specific targets whilst also being mindful of vulnerable communities and sectors. The project directly supports initiatives like NITI Aayog’s Vikas Bharat, MoEFCC’s and MNRE’s goals. By mobilizing public and private investments in low-carbon technologies across energy, transportation, and other crucial sectors, the CRI contributes significantly to India’s national climate commitments.
