Aimed at operationalising the midwifery initiative in the country, WHO is providing normative support to develop technical guidance documents, support training of first batch of nurse practitioners in midwifery education, monitor framework for midwifery programme, and techno-managerial support at national level through a Midwifery Central Coordination Unit (CCU).

WHO provides support to the government for the coordination of a CCU to assist them in rolling out the midwifery initiative to establish midwife-led care in India. The CCU works in close coordination with the Joint Secretary, Reproductive & Child Health (RCH) and Joint Commissioner, Maternal Health (MH), MoHFW, GoI and under the direct guidance and direction of the WHO Country Office for India. The CCU assists and provides coordination support on normative work (preparation of guidelines, SOPs, training materials, etc.) for operationalisation of midwifery initiative, coordination and communication with national and state midwifery training institutes to implement midwifery care, and supports in planning and coordination of NPM and NPM Educators trainings.

Under this assignment, we were responsible for positioning highly skilled technical professionals to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to strengthen the capacities of the Central Coordination Unit for the implementation of midwifery interventions.

As the Head of State Partnerships at the DFID India, he was responsible for developing partnerships, programme design, management and strategic oversight of all programmes implemented in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. He has managed various development programmes. His expertise lies in driving operational, financial and programmatic transformations. Before DFID, he was associated with Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Help Age and World Wildlife Fund.

He holds a Master’s degree in Business Management with specialisation in Human Resource Management and Finance. He is extensively trained in Project Cycle Management, Grant Management, Performance Management, Leadership Skills and Change Management.
