My father refused to adhere to the ritual of “Kanyadaana”
My Father, My Inspiration!
His daughter is not an object who can be donated. His “girl” is priceless and not a charity which he is ready to make! His stand defies the existing norms but strengthens my belief that we are progressing for a change and more people like him can reduce the 216 years gap!
My father has been and would always remain my source of inspiration. From giving me an unconventional name to defying age-old social norms, he has been a person living on his own terms. Recently I got married and my father refused to adhere to the ritual of “Kanyadaana”. The literal translation of the term comes down to the meaning of the two comprising words - Kanya=Maiden and Daan=Donation, which may be seen as the Donation of a Maiden. And for my father his daughter is not an object which can be donated. His “girl” is priceless and not a charity which he is ready to make! His stand defies the existing norms but most importantly it strengthens my belief that we are progressing for a change and more people like him can reduce the 216 years gap!
At times he tells me he has been empowered by raising me single-handedly, though I believe it is one of the hardest job, but as a team we have had our share of good times and stories to recall.
